If you're new or have been flying for years, a Demo Ride is an excellent way to explore what soaring has to offer.
You'll be towed 3,000 feet above ground and then say good bye to the tow plane as you enjoy the next 20 minutes (+/-) of powerless flight!
A nominal $75 fee covers everything you'll need.
Use the calendar on this page to select a date and a block of time for your ride. Our days are divided into morning and afternoon blocks of time for demo rides. Your flight should occur within the block of time and will last approximately 20 minutes, depending on soaring conditions. Please arrive 30 minutes before the block of time begins so that you can be briefed and sequenced for the flight.
Most likely, you will fly in a Grob 103 Twin II. Check out the list of OSA equipment for a picture.
The glider pilots giving the rides possess at least an FAA Commercial Glider Pilot certificate.
Yes. For safety reasons, people weighing over 220 pounds are not able to fly in our gliders. There are no safety reasons for height, but the cockpits are small and someone who is well above average height may find it uncomfortable.
It depends on the conditions, but most rides start at 3000' above the ground and last about 20 minutes.
It costs $75.00 Please bring cash or check payable to Oklahoma Soaring Association when you come.
There are many factors, including availability of pilots, glider, ground crew, tow pilot, tow plane, and weather.
Yes. Please watch your email and texts for status changes to your flight. We will cancel the flight if weather conditions are unsafe or for other factors.
You will meet us inside the terminal building at the Hinton Airport. Please arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled block of time begins. Once inside, almost everyone there is involved in the club, so just introduce yourself and tell them that you are here for a ride.
No. It is a club, and the nominal fee covers our costs associated with the ride. We are always looking for new members to join the fun.
Please see our current Membership page for details.
If you are unable to fly, please let us know as soon as possible. It takes many people and coordination to give a ride. If you need to cancel, please use the links provided to our calendar in the ride confirmation email. If you still have difficulty, please contact us via email.
Soaring, like any aviation activity, involves risks, but when conducted responsibly with proper training, equipment, and adherence to safety protocols, it can be relatively safe. Glider pilots undergo rigorous training to learn how to handle various situations and mitigate risks effectively. Additionally, gliders are designed with safety in mind, and clubs and organizations often have strict safety procedures in place to ensure the well-being of participants. However, it's essential to always be aware of potential hazards and to prioritize safety at all times. A copy of the liability waiver is available for your review below.
